Life Support (ALS)
San Luis Ambulance provides both 911 service and inter-facility transfer service for San Luis Obispo County. All of the ambulances that San Luis Ambulance operates on a daily basis are Advanced Life Support (ALS). This means that there is at least a minimum of one paramedic with an EMT. Additionally, all of the equipment required to perform ALS treatment is in the ambulance as well.
San Luis Ambulance works very closely with the San Luis Obispo County Emergency Medical Services Agency (EMSA), the agency that provides oversight for the emergency medical system, to ensure that we offer the most current prehospital care that is available. The paramedics at San Luis Ambulance are allowed to practice under liberal protocols, designed with our input, to make sure that the patients receive the best and most efficient care possible. This care includes, but is not limited to, electrocardiogram (EKG) monitoring, including 12-lead EKG, and oxygen level monitoring, inclusive of SPO2, and ETCO2. The San Luis Obispo County EMSA allows for adult intubation. Vascular access for adult and pediatric patients is obtained through intravenous, external jugular and intraosseous cannulation. The basic scope of practice for paramedics is Section 100091.02.

Our EKG monitors contain the most current lifesaving technology and, like most of the other patient care equipment, are replaced on a scheduled basis to assure that they are the most modern and effective available.

Critical Care
Transportation (CCT)
San Luis Ambulance, now celebrating 20 years of Critical Care Transport (CCT) service in San Luis Obispo County, offers in addition to its Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances, a CCT ambulance option for the citizens of San Luis Obispo County. San Luis Ambulance’s CCT ambulance is the only CCT service offered within the county.
The San Luis Ambulance CCT program works under the philosophy that medicine is a team approach. The minimum staffing for a CCT ambulance is a Registered Nurse, paramedic and an EMT. The Registered Nurse can follow any written orders that a physician requires and, if necessary, the paramedic can utilize their San Luis Obispo County Emergency Medical Services Agency protocols. The CCT program successfully accomplishes this under the oversight of a Nurse Manager and a Medical Director.
Some of the specialized equipment utilized by the CCT includes a transport ventilator, end tidal CO₂ monitoring, two-channel invasive line monitoring, transcutaneous pacing, 12-lead EKG, and a multi-channel intravenous infusion pump. The CCT ambulance also offers blended high-flow oxygen therapy using the AIRVO system, providing advanced respiratory support during ground transport. The infusion of critical medications includes, but is not limited to, thrombolytics, blood products, vasoactive medications, anti-arrhythmic agents, pain control, and sedation.
The CCT ambulance is available for inter-facility transports within San Luis Obispo County, as well as transports throughout California for patients who require a higher level of care than the facilities in San Luis Obispo County can provide.

Services
San Luis Ambulance Bike Paramedics are able to respond anywhere inaccessible by standard ambulances and are Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support equipped, providing a high level of care in the pre-hospital setting. All of our paramedics are California licensed and currently work in San Luis Obispo County as emergency 911 paramedics.
